[...] This morning I discovered, thanks to a comment from the moderator at An Inch at a Time, that there is a new post from Bishop Gene Robinson… First, let’s give ourselves some time to recover. In the first few moments of having the breath knocked out of us, we struggle just to breathe, unable to think about much of anything other than getting some oxygen back into our lungs. We have been dealt a blow that has knocked the wind out of us. Let’s be kind to ourselves, breathe a little, before we try to move on. Nothing has to be decided or done in the next few hours or days. Let’s catch our breath, remembering that breath is a powerful image of the Holy Spirit in the Old and New Testaments. Let’s allow ourselves to be re-infused with that Holy Spirit which has never abandoned us, no matter what the Church does or doesn’t do. [...]

Thank you for this courageous statement of faith. It helps me remember to celebrate the changes that have happened throughout my life, 69 years. Most of these changes were begun by my fore mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, friends many of them slaves and their supporters. Yes, we will win as Jesus told us. We must walk the path of faith in our efforts for justice, not only for LGBT, but for all people who have suffered under the domination of patriarchy. My walk with Jesus is not over. It has not always been easy. I have learned that God comes to me in those moments of pain and suffering. In fact it is in moments of loss and suffering that I know God the most not in moments of celebration. I hope that I will live to see more changes for justice, but I know that those changes will happen with or without me because others will continue in their efforts to bring about change for justice and righteousness.

Thank you Gene for your confession of faith and your vision. It gives us all hope.

What a wonderful thing we have in the Episcopal church! My 18 y/o daughter just came out to us and I am so fortunate to be a lively member of this group of Christian. I think your sermon for Integrity was absolutely fantastic. Thank you. This article was also great. I do pray for you.
